What are some makeup basics?

I'm going to be a sophmore in high school. I never wear makeup and i think girls who wear makeup look sooo pretty. even if it's just eye liner. what are make up basics I should get from the drug store. Like I know eye liner, liquid eye liner and foundation. can you suggest a brand ?
