Mod 1980 Triumph TR7?

I have a 1980 Triumph TR7 2.0 Litre Slant 4 with dual Zenith Stromberg Carbs and I want to modify the engine so that it will be more efficient. Can anyone help me with ideas (ex carbs, exhaust, cooling, engine)? I want to sacrifice as little MPGs as possible, I just want to make it run more freely and efficiently.
