Newspaper engagement announcement format?

Yes, I think it is extremely tacky. The engagement, wedding, is about the couple...NOT their parents. So I wonder what they print if the bride's or groom's parent is in jail for something, Lol. I don't know if it is acceptable or not, and frankly I don't care if some "etiquette expert" thinks it's acceptable, I still think it's tacky. I suspect that the parents of the bride and groom think they are pretty special and like to flaunt their self importance.
