Why didn't the Pope apologize for his statements made about Islam?

First, I heard him apologize. Second, to prove he's wrong, you're threatening him? That's only proving his point. Third, truth is, he's right. Muhammad spread Islam through the sword. I think that's a bit hypocritical when you call it a "peaceful religion."
