What was the significance of Bin Ladens death?

Is the war b/t Islam Jihadism & our representative democratic belief and market just a battle of ideas? If it is, does Osama death even matter? Will the principle of consumerism overcome democracy & Jihad? (I am writing an article for a major outlet and need some opinions for the article.
